In late November 2024, I had a moose encounter that nearly cost me my life. It wasn’t that the moose was in the wrong; rather, I was being reckless. I was trampled by the massive animal, which struck my head, chest, and hip. After I let out a death scream, the moose ceased its attack and wandered off. I quickly jumped up and ran to safety. At the Emergency Department, I was fortunate to receive a clean bill of health: no internal injuries and no broken bones. As I lay in bed, incapacitated from the bruises, I pondered my survival and wondered why I was spared. The only conclusion I could reach was that I still had a purpose: to mend the three estranged relationships in my life with my dad, my daughter, and my son. I live in Colorado, where this moose encounter took place. I enjoy writing, playing, running, and gardening, often getting lost in my thoughts. I’m never bored, and I often reflect on my personal stories, including this harrowing experience.
